The ten fastest from the nine trail races will return to the Houston oval on July 25th to contest the 350 yard restricted grade 1 final of the $408,729. Of the ten, two are conditioned by trainer Heath Taylor.
Straight Stoli kept his unbeaten record at 3-for-3 with a ½ length victory in the sixth trial. The gelded son of Stoli racing for MCM Farm, LLC was saddled by Heath Taylor. Ridden by champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr., Straight Stoli posted the third fastest clocking of :18.037. He broke his maiden in his first start at Remington before winning a trial race to the Heritage Place Futurity(G1) on May 8th.
Also qualifying was Legendary Seis, a Tres Seis filly out of the Holland Ease mare Valentine Alliance. The filly finished well in the fastest of the nine trials to secure a spot in the finals. She races for owner and breeder Mercy Hinklin.
The finals were held on July 25. Straight Stoli recovered from a poor start, putting up a late surge to finish second. Posting his first loss in 4 starts, the colt put forth a huge effort to come from behind. He earned $89,921 for owner MCM Farm, LLC. Legendary Seis ran a solid race finishing fifth for Mercy Hinklin, adding $16,349 to her earnings.
