VINTON, LA: Saturday night’s $40,000 Miss Polly Classic Stakes at Delta Downs was won by Denis and Julie Schoenhofer’s MR PERRY DASH under jockey Gilbert Ortiz.
Mr Perry Dash defeated One Game Chick by a half-length with Miss Kips Streakin finishing another ¾ of a length back in third.
The win marked the eighth victory for the five-year-old son of Mr Jess Perry, out of the Dash Easy mare Baby Doll Dash. He earned $24,000 for his effort, which raised his lifetime bankroll up to $280,896.
Keith Renfro's homebred One Game Chick finished picked up $8,000 second. The Game Patriot 4-year-old filly was saddled by Janet Van Bebber and ridden by Alfonso Lujan.
Gerardo Medina Luna's Miss Kips Streakin earned $4,400. Ridden by J.R. Ramirez, the 5-year-old Streakin Sixes daughter was saddled by Erika Huitron.
Completing the field were Vodka With Ice, Streakin La Copper, Sixy Royal King, Heza Fast Classic and Canosa.
Trained by Heath Taylor, Mr Perry Dash ended 2008 with two strong races against 2008 champion aged stallion Ketel Won at Zia Park.
He scored an attention-getting upset when he defeated two-time champion Ketel Won in the Lovington Handicap over 400 yards, the same distance as the Miss Polly. Ketel Won then prevailed over 440 yards in the Zia Park Championship (G1) while Mr Perry Dash finished third.
