IT’S A “SPECIAL” FUTURITY AT DELTA DOWNS
 
TF MS SPECIAL PERRY Holds Off  Mr Jess XL To Win Firecracker Futurity
 
VINTON, LA—Delta Downs  The richest event of the evening, the Grade II $214,700 Firecracker Futurity, was won by Steve L. Tate’s 2-year-old filly, Tf Ms Special Perry under jockey Gilbert Ortiz. The Heath Taylor trainee defeated Mr Jess XL by a neck with McM Ocean Twelve finishing another half-length behind in third.
 
Tf Ms Special Perry stopped the clock in a time of :17.592 for 350 over a fast track, which translated to a speed index of 97.
 
The win by Tf Ms Special Perry was the second of her career from four overall starts. The winner’s share of $96,615 raised her career bankroll up to $108,865.
 
Tf Ms Special Perry is a sorrel filly by Special Leader, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Dashadee. She was bred in Louisiana by Robert A. Gentry.
 
Racing for Jose Ramiro Villarreal, Mr Jess XI picked up $35,499 for his second place effort. The Mr Jess Perry colt was saddled by Erika Huitron and ridden by Julian Cantu.
 
Mcm Ocean Twelve is a gelded son of first crop sire Ocean Runaway. Earning $21,470 for his owner/breeder MCM Farm, LLC, the bay gelding was handled by Bobby Martinez with Jarrod Deschamp aboard.
 
Completing the field was Forget Thinkin, Market High, Shake Change, Midnight Swingin, Leadin Starr , West Coast Magic and Dynaglide, who shorted his stride and was eased by jockey Cody Jensen.
